How to fix Javascript Error in Discord App - 2024 Update

Are you found a JavaScript issue on Discord that makes the app unusable? Don't worry, there are several ways to fix this problem so that the app can run smoothly. Here are solutions for your issue.

1. Run Discord as an Administrator:

   - The error might be due to Discord not having full permissions to run. You can solve this by running the app with administrator rights on your Windows PC.

   - Find Discord on your desktop or in the Start Menu. Right-click on the app, then from the menu that appears, select "Run as Administrator."

   - In the User Account Control prompt, select "Yes."

   - To ensure Discord always launches as an admin, right-click the Discord shortcut on your desktop, then select "Properties."

   - In the "Shortcut" tab, choose "Advanced." Enable the "Run as Administrator" option and select "OK."

   - Select "Apply," choose "Continue" in the prompt, and select "OK." From now on, every time you launch Discord using the desktop shortcut, it will run with admin privileges.

2. Delete Discord AppData Files:

   - Corrupted Discord AppData files can lead to JavaScript errors. To fix this, delete the problematic files and use the app installer to get the original files.

   - Open the Run dialog box by pressing Windows+R. Type "%appdata%" and press Enter.

   - Open the "Discord" folder and select all files by pressing Ctrl+A. Right-click on one of the selected files and choose "Delete" (trash bin icon).

   - Open Run again (press Windows+R), type "%localappdata%" and press Enter.

   - Open the "Discord" folder, select all files with Ctrl+A, right-click on the selected files, and choose "Delete" (trash bin icon).

   - Visit the Discord Download site, download the installer, and run it to reinstall the necessary files on your PC.

3. Disable Your Antivirus:

   - Your antivirus might be causing issues with Discord. Temporarily disable antivirus protection to check and resolve the problem. The process depends on the antivirus program you're using.

   - If using Microsoft Defender Antivirus, open the Windows Security app. Click "Virus & Threat Protection" and select "Manage Settings" under "Virus & Threat Protection Settings."

   - Turn off "Real-Time Protection" and select "Yes" in the prompt.

4. Uninstall BetterDiscord:

   - If you are using BetterDiscord (which adds extra features to your Discord experience), uninstall it. It's not the official client for using the platform's features.

   - Run the BetterDiscord installer you downloaded. If you don't have the file, visit the BetterDiscord site to download it. Accept the license agreement, choose "Uninstall BetterDiscord," and select "Next." Choose the Discord app you're using and select "Uninstall."

   - Once BetterDiscord is uninstalled, click "Close" to close the window.

5. Reinstall Discord:

   - If none of the above solutions work, the last resort is to uninstall and reinstall Discord on your computer. This will remove all app files (some of which may be damaged) and help resolve your issue.

   - Deleting the app won't erase your account data; Discord will sync your data when you log in again.

   - On Windows 11 PC, go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Next to Discord, click the three dots and choose "Uninstall" followed by "Uninstall."

   - On Windows 10 PC, open Settings > Apps. Select Discord from the list, click "Uninstall," and choose "Uninstall."

   - Visit the Discord Download site, download and install the app on your computer. Your issue should be resolved. Enjoy!
