How to Pause Snapchat Location (Without Turning It Off)

Snapchat's Live location service keeps your whereabouts updated on Snap Maps even when you're not actively using the app. If you're keen on maintaining some privacy and prefer not to share your exact location with friends, it's wise to disable this feature. Here's how you can do it:

Method 1: Hide Your Live Location

  • Open Snapchat and tap on the Maps icon at the bottom.
  • In Snap Maps, tap the settings icon in the top right corner.
  • Select "Snap Maps" and toggle on "Hide My Live Location."
  • Choose the duration for which you wish to hide your location or select "Until Turned Off" for indefinite privacy.

By enabling this feature, your friends will still see your last active location on Snap Map, striking a balance between privacy and connectivity.

Method 2: Keep Snapchat in the Background

While turning off live location won’t update your coordinates in the background, Snapchat will refresh your location whenever you open it. To maintain privacy, refrain from using Snapchat to prevent friends from knowing your current whereabouts.

Method 3: Activate Ghost Mode

  • Ghost Mode hides your location from friends on Snap Map. To turn it on:
  • Tap the Location tab at the bottom left corner.
  • Tap the settings icon.
  • Enable "Ghost Mode" and select the duration.

Your Bitmoji will disappear from the Snap Map, indicating that your location is hidden.

Method 4: Revoke Precise Location Accuracy

Disabling precise location sharing affects Snap Map's functionality, showing only your last updated position. Here's how to do it:

  • On Android: Long-press the Snapchat app icon, go to App info > Permissions > Location, and disable "Use precise location."
  • On iOS: Open Settings, select Snapchat > Location, and turn off "Precise Location."

Method 5: Remove Location Permission

To completely stop sharing your location with Snapchat:

  • On Android: Long-press the Snapchat app icon, go to App info > Permissions > Location, and select "Don’t allow."
  • On iOS: In Settings, choose Snapchat > Location, and select "Never."

These methods offer varying degrees of privacy control over your location sharing on Snapchat, allowing you to customize your preferences according to your needs.
