Calling all retro game enthusiasts! The popular PSP (PlayStation Portable) emulator, PPSSPP, has finally made its official debut on the App Store for iOS users. This marks a significant milestone for the mobile gaming community, as game emulators were previously barred from the iOS platform.
PPSSPP, a long-standing open-source cross-platform emulator that has been enjoyed on various devices like macOS, Windows, Linux, Android, and many more, can now be downloaded and played on your iPhone and iPad. The arrival of PPSSPP on the App Store is exciting news for gamers who want to relive the nostalgia of playing their favorite PSP games on their iOS devices.
"After almost 12 years, PPSSPP is finally approved for the iOS App Store! Thanks to Apple for relaxing their policies and allowing retro game console emulators on the store," expressed the PPSSPP developers in their blog post.
While Apple has opened the doors for game emulators, iOS still has some technical limitations to consider. One of which is the lack of support for Just-In-Time (JIT) compilation on third-party apps, which can affect emulation performance for some games. Additionally, there's currently no support for the iPad's Magic Keyboard on game emulators. However, the developers have pledged to address these limitations in the future.
The arrival of PPSSPP on iOS isn't the only exciting news for mobile gamers. Earlier this week, other game emulators like RetroArch and Gamma have also been released for iOS. RetroArch, known for its extensive compatibility, allows you to play games from various Nintendo consoles, including N64, SNES, Game Boy, and Nintendo DS. While Gamma focuses on PlayStation 1 game emulation.
PPSSPP is now available for free on the App Store. For those who want additional features, a paid "Gold" version is available for $4.99.
What are you waiting for? Download PPSSPP now and relive the nostalgia of playing PSP games on your iOS device!
