Nexus Mods Release version 0.6.1

The Nexus Mods app, an open-source and cross-platform project in development, has just released version 0.6.1 for testing, bringing a wave of exciting improvements. This app is poised to eventually replace the popular Vortex mod manager.

For those who have tested previous versions, a clean slate is required. Due to the early stages of development, upgrading from prior versions is not yet supported. This functionality will be added in the future.

The headline feature in this release is the experimental "Collections" system. This allows users to install multiple mods together as a single package. Currently, Collections support only mods from Nexus Mods and are exclusive to Premium users. However, free users will be able to utilize this feature in the future.

Another notable enhancement is the redesigned user interface, leveraging a new tree view and grouping mods based on their Nexus Mods page. Users have the option to disable grouping if they prefer a different layout.

Cyberpunk 2077 modding receives a boost with the addition of functionality that detects missing REDmod DLC and prompts users to install it if necessary. Further, the developers have successfully implemented REDmod on Linux, leveraging Protontricks to create a framework for running Windows applications and tools on the Linux platform. This collaboration between open-source projects highlights the benefits of open source development.

Currently, the app only supports modding for Cyberpunk 2077 and Stardew Valley, with plans to expand its functionality in the future.

The release notes detail various other changes and enhancements.

This new release underscores the continuous progress being made on the Nexus Mods app. The addition of features like Collections, improved UI, and expanded Cyberpunk 2077 modding support demonstrates the developers' commitment to creating a robust and user-friendly mod management solution. While the app is still in its early stages, it holds great promise as a future replacement for Vortex, offering an open-source and cross-platform solution for gamers looking to enhance their gaming experience through modding. The community is eagerly awaiting the future development of this exciting project, and the introduction of support for other games is highly anticipated.
