Building a Niche Website with Pinterest: An Experiment to Outsmart SEO

Welcome back to another update on the Pinterest niche website project. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve made considerable strides from setting up our Pinterest account to generating traffic without relying on traditional SEO practices. This project is designed to focus on how much traffic we can generate solely through Pinterest. In this article, I'll guide you through the steps we've taken so far, the tools we used, and the strategies we’ve implemented to build this website.

Setting Up and Initial Steps

Creating the Pinterest Account and Website
The journey started with creating a Pinterest account and any initial set of pins. Simultaneously, we set up the website using the Cadence WordPress theme. The primary goal was not to rank on Google; therefore, SEO was intentionally not a priority.

Research and Domain Selection
The first significant step involved using a tool named Pin Clicks for niche and keyword research. Pin Clicks is specifically crafted for Pinterest keyword exploration, offering extensive data beyond Pinterest's built-in analytics. While Pinterest itself provides limited keyword options, Pin Clicks returns hundreds, much like traditional SEO keyword tools.

Niche Selection: We chose the keto niche, largely due to its popularity and potential on Pinterest.
Domain Name: With the help of AI tools like Claude AI and ChatGPT, we brainstormed and registered a domain name—ketorcrush.com.
Hosting and Basic Setup
For hosting, we opted for Hostinger due to its affordability and generous storage options, as our project is image-heavy. Here’s a quick rundown of the initial technical setup:

Installed WordPress
Applied necessary plugins and themes
Created and organized website categories (10 main categories with subcategories for keto recipes)
Building Out the Content
Content Strategy
The content creation process is methodical and structured to ensure consistency:

Keyword Research: Leveraged Pin Clicks to identify key phrases and topics for the keto niche.
Article Writing: Utilized Koala AI Writer for generating high-quality content, taking advantage of a substantial pre-purchased credit pack for generating words.
Detailed Category Setup
Each category on the website aligns perfectly with a corresponding Pinterest board. This includes sections like:

  • Keto Health
  • Keto Appetizers and Party Foods
  • Keto Bread and Baked Goods
  • Keto Breakfast Recipes
  • Keto Desserts
  • Keto Dinner Recipes
  • Keto for Beginners
  • Keto Lifestyle
  • Keto Lunch Recipes
  • Keto Meal Planning
  • Keto Q&A
  • Keto Side Dishes

Breaking it down into these detailed sections helps target more specific audience interests and keywords.

Canva and AI Image Creation

We used a mix of custom designs in Canva and AI-generated images for image creation. Here's the image creation process:
  • Custom Designs in Canva: Five images per article.
  • AI Images: Initially used Leonardo AI, later aiming to switch to Idiogram AI for enhanced efficiency.
  • Keywords and Titles via ChatGPT
  • ChatGPT played a vital role in generating pin titles, descriptions, and hashtags. This streamlined the process by providing ready-to-use prompts for AI image creation and pin descriptions.

Publishing and Pinning Strategy

Initial Content Push

Launched the site with approximately 20 articles to create a substantial base. Here’s the breakdown of our pinning strategy:
  • Pin Creation: Created 10 pins for each article (5 from Canva, 5 from AI-generated images).
  • Scheduling Pins: Used an autorescheduler software to distribute pins strategically throughout the day.

Utilizing Scheduler Tools

For scheduling, multiple tools were reviewed, including Tailwind and Viralwoot. Here's why the selected scheduler stood out:
  • Affordability: Offered a good balance between cost and functionality.
  • Team Management: Allowed for efficient scheduling and managing multiple user roles.
  • Pin Limits: Capped at 36 pins per day per account to avoid risk of account suspension, aiming for quality over quantity.

Continuous Improvement

While the initial focus is setting up a robust process, continuous improvement will involve:
  • Analyzing traffic and engagement metrics to optimize content strategy.
  • Fine-tuning the SOPs based on feedback and data-driven insights.
  • Possibly expanding to additional niche websites using the established model.

Scaling the Process

Should the current strategy prove successful, the plan is to replicate the process for other niches. This involves:

  • Conducting niche-specific keyword research using Pin Clicks.
  • Setting up domain names and websites.
  • Creating relevant, high-quality content using Koala AI Writer.
  • Managing pin creation and scheduling through VA teams, continually optimizing based on performance.

Conclusion

Embarking on this Pinterest niche website project presents a unique approach to driving traffic without relying on Google SEO. By leveraging tools like Pin Clicks, Koala AI Writer, and Canva, combined with a well-structured SOP and a dedicated VA team, we aim to maximize the potential of Pinterest as a traffic source. This project not only explores the viability of Pinterest as a major traffic driver but also sets a foundation for scaling similar strategies across various niches. Stay tuned for further updates as we evaluate the ongoing performance and refine the process.
