PorteuX 1.7 is Released as A Best Lightweight Linux Distro 2024

PorteuX 1.7, a lightweight Linux distribution known for its impressive performance, has just been released with a plethora of impressive updates and optimizations. One of the main highlights of this release is a significantly smaller ISO size compared to previous versions, thanks to various optimizations designed to enhance overall performance and stability.

This release brings numerous improvements, including addressing issues with the run-pipewire and gui-cheatcode-loader scripts previously running endlessly in the background. The LXDE freezing issue when dragging files from Engrampa to the file manager's side panel has also been addressed, as has the sticky key-related notification bug in Xfce 4.18.

The PorteuX team has refined the kernel configuration, eliminating unnecessary debug features to reduce size while maintaining functionality. Compiler flags for GCC and Clang have been refined to enable Link-Time Optimization (LTO) where possible, resulting in smaller and more efficient binaries.

The Xfce 4.18 desktop environment has also undergone several adjustments, including window snapping when dragging to screen edges and a faster hide/show panel delay at just 10 milliseconds. Many core modules and scripts have also been streamlined to optimize system resources.

PorteuX 1.7 introduces updates to core components, including the Linux kernel upgraded to version 6.11.4, GNOME upgraded to version 47.1, and KDE upgraded to version 6.2.1. Additionally, several packages have been recompiled with Clang, such as GTK+3, libjxl, transmission, and ffmpeg, to reduce binary size. Various outdated services and packages have also been removed to further enhance system efficiency.

Overall, this release continues PorteuX's focus on providing a streamlined and optimized Linux experience while staying current with major updates in the Linux ecosystem. The distribution remains available for free download here.

The release of PorteuX 1.7 marks a significant step forward for this lightweight Linux distribution, offering a faster, more stable, and more efficient experience. PorteuX users can now enjoy a system optimized for peak performance and minimal resource consumption.

With its comprehensive updates and focus on optimization, PorteuX 1.7 solidifies its position as an attractive Linux distribution for those seeking a streamlined and responsive Linux experience.
