XL Axiata, a leading telecommunications company in Indonesia, is pushing the boundaries of customer service with a groundbreaking innovation – facial recognition technology for prepaid card registration.
The pilot program was launched on Thursday, September 12th, at XL Center Gandaria City, Jakarta, under the watchful eye of Sumini, Chair of the Monitoring and Evaluation Team for Telecommunication Services and Customer Protection at the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Informatics. The event was also witnessed by Wayan Toni Supriyanto, Director General of Postal and Informatics Services at the Ministry, Yessie D. Yosetya, Director and Chief Enterprise Business and Corporate Affairs Officer of XL Axiata, and Rico Usthavia Frans, Director and Chief IT Digital Officer of XL Axiata.
Yessie D. Yosetya hoped this innovation would enhance ease, security, and speed and reduce the potential for data falsification or identity theft.
“Facial recognition technology has already found widespread application across various sectors, including banking and security. Now, XL Axiata is at the forefront of implementing this technology in the telecommunications sector,” she stated in a press release on Friday, September 13th.
The process involves customers providing a facial scan through a designated device during the prepaid card registration. The biometric data collected is then automatically validated against government-issued identity documents, ensuring the registered individual is the legitimate owner of the identity.
This innovative approach ensures more accurate identity verification and accelerates the registration process. It also aligns with the Know Your Customer (KYC) standards enforced within the industry, aiming to ensure the validity of customer data and minimize the risk of fraud or identity misuse.
XL Axiata's commitment to enhancing customer service extends beyond the convenience of facial recognition technology. It reflects a more profound commitment to supporting government regulations regarding mandatory prepaid number registration. These regulations are designed to bolster security and prevent misuse of telecommunication services.
This bold step by XL Axiata marks a significant leap forward in the telecommunications industry. By embracing facial recognition technology, XL Axiata is streamlining the registration process and establishing a new standard for secure and efficient customer service. This initiative underlines their dedication to staying at the forefront of technological advancement while prioritizing customer needs and contributing to a safer and more secure digital environment.
